About our services and programs

Serving the community
New Beginnings loves to serve the community with clothing giveaways twice a year
Port Arthur, Texas has an approximate population of 57,000 according to the 2000 census. Of the 22,000 households, 19.3 % have female head of household or no husband. Additionally, 25.2% of the population is below the national poverty line including 35.2% of those under 18 years old.

While poverty, hopelessness, and violence is an issue – New Beginnings is dedicated to help by meeting tangible and spiritual needs.

Our hope and mission is to help improve the lives of the men and women in our community by teaching life and job skills so that they will be able to step above the poverty line. After an assessment of needs within the community we offer training and classes in: job skills, life skills, anger management, parenting, computer literacy and more.

Throughout the year, New Beginnings connects with the needs of the community by providing assistance in a mentorship, job training, food, clothing, and Bible Studies. These programs and initiatives take the form of classes (mentioned above), and various outreaches on the streets, and social work / projects that assist those in need.

Each summer New Beginnings hosts a program for children entitled JAMMED. This is an ongoing outreach to the children of the inner-city of Port Arthur. Ministering with games, balloons, teaching, food, prayer and love; an average of 100 children are assisted each week through this initiative.

In August, New Beginnings partners with other community agencies in a one day Back to School event. Along with school supplies, 3 new pairs of undergarments and socks are given to approximately 2.000 children to prepare them for the upcoming school year.

Handbags of Hope is our newest project. We collect new and gently used purses, fill them with toiletry items and distribute them to the homeless/those in need women in our community. The delight and dignity that overwhelms the ladies when receiving a purse is priceless.

Every Christmas, New Beginnings conducts its CHRISTMAS BLESSINGS outreach. This annual outreach is designed to give parents in need, a place to “shop for free” for Christmas gifts for their children. This outreach is a safe environment where parents are respected, treated with dignity and given an opportunity to provide a Christmas of “blessing” to their children. New Beginnings is grateful to partner with various local churches and organizations for donations of food, finance and toys to make this outreach a success.

Lastly, New Beginnings takes its training on the road to other locations or even to the ends of the earth. There are people all around the word who need an encouraging word, a help out, practical teaching and holistic resources to have a “new beginning” in life. These global opportunities have taken Dr. Henry and Beverly Holland to all corners of the earth.
